Youth Pastor Search Update

We are near the end of our initial search process for a new youth pastor. We have taken our time and been as comprehensive and discerning as we can by undertaking the following:

1. Consultation: Our trustees paid for and engaged the service of a national you ministry consultant. We reviewed our youth pastor roles and needs and updated the position for advertising.

2. Advertising:  The role was advertised as widely as possible, nationally and internationally. This included Vineyard UK, Premier Magazine, New Wine, youth ministry training colleges, and a host of youth ministry networks.

3. Shortlisting: After the application deadline, trustees and staff with our national consultant shortlisted potential candidates. This step was about inviting any applications who met the qualifications and experience requirements for the role.

4. First Interviews: We then had first interviews that involved trustees, senior pastors, and other staff - our youth worker Maisie, Kids pastor Hannah, and Kids Co-ordinator Lili. We focused on confirming candidates' qualifications and experience around the role and who would be suitable for second interviews at those interviews.

5. Second Interviews: These took place in a series of separate meetings with the youth team, youth parents, and most importantly, the youth. It was feedback from these three groups that we used to determine who we might invite to a final stage of in-person meetings at SVC.

6. In-person visit: Our final candidate will visit us this coming weekend, 3-6 September. She is meeting with SVC members, leaders, the youth team, parents, and youth. She will visit our Sunday service. At the end of this weekend, we decide if we want to offer the role or if our candidate wants the position and to move to Sutton.

Please be praying for our candidate and her meetings with us this weekend. They and we must discern god's calling for them and us.

Small Groups

We have always described small groups as the heartbeat of our church. During COVID, we confirmed how that was the case. Our small groups continue this Autumn, and our hope is every member of SVC will take part in them.

Small groups will be following up on our Sunday series Faith Works. Each small group will provide an opportunity to discover what the Lord wants to say to you this Autumn and how to step into that and be supported in prayer by other people seeking Jesus with you.

If you are not in a group, are between groups, or are new to SVC, visit our smallgroup page www.suttonvineyard.org/smallgroups or email hannah.miles@suttonvineyard.org and we will help match and introduce you to a group.

Prayer Gatherings and Prophecy Sessions

Prayer Gatherings

Our current Prayer Gatherings will start again in September after the summer break. These will continue on Zoom and currently have gatherings to pray for Youth, Families, Prodigals, and Lighthouse. You can find details of all our prayer gatherings here www.suttonvineyard.org/prayer

If you would like to start a Prayer Gathering for another area of ministry or topic, please email prayer@suttonvineyard.org.

Our monthly Prophecy and Discernment Forum (PDF) has a special meeting on Monday September 13th. Kevin McStay of Carlisle Vineyard is bringing us some exciting teaching to help us explore the link between prayer and the prophetic and to help us go deeper in praying effective prayers. You can sign up here https://suttonvineyard.churchsuite.co.uk/events/z3eel1nj

Prophecy

We are continuing to offer Zoom appointments for a Personal Prophecy session with members of our Prophecy team. You can find details of all our prophecy sessions and how to sign up here www.suttonvineyard.org/prophecy

SOZO

We had to suspend our Sozo ministry during the Covid pandemic but are looking to restart it in the near future and to potentially expand our existing team.

Sozo is a Greek word that means saved, healed, delivered and it is used over a hundred times in the New Testament. The Bethel Sozo Ministry is a unique, gentle inner healing ministry, led by the Holy Spirit. It aims to quickly get to and deal with the root of things that are hindering your connection with Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. It is not a counselling session.

If you are interested in finding out more about Sozo, please email sozo@suttonvineyard.org.

Secombe Theatre Update

After several prayer meetings and words people had, we feel the Lord has directed us to pursue us using the Secombe Theatre in Sutton. This could be a major community space and somewhere for us for Sunday services and youth. It would be an exciting next step for our church to impact our community and have a place of our own to meet.

The theatre is currently shuttered and closed and is being used to store PPE equipment by Sutton council. We have been asking for access to survey the site and determine its suitability. After a prayer meeting for access, Sutton LA offered us access to the theatre at the start of this month. Would you please continue to pray for the council staff who are supposed to be facilitating our access? Once we have that access, or if it becomes delayed, we will come back to you all and have more prayer for the space.

Hong Kong Friendship Festival

Saturday September 18th Beddington Park - 2:30-4:30 pm

We have already shared how over one thousand hong kong families are moving to Sutton with our church family. This is due to the Chinese government's taking over Hong King during COVID and the removal of democratic freedoms, with new national security laws prohibiting protest and dissent. The UK government has made a route to the UK for Hong Kongers with a new British national (overseas) Visa.

55% of those arriving into Sutton are Christians. Almost everyone coming is leaving behind family, who they will not be able to see again. Young people are particularly traumatised by all this. So we have been supporting Hong Kongers with a buddy system - where SVC members support Hong Kongers and professional networking (where SVC members help Hong Kongers with work search and recruitment processes. We have also had social events for Hong Kongers to make friends with SVC people.

We now have a significant event on September 18th in Beddington Park, an initiative by our church, in partnership with local churches, Hong Kongers in Sutton, and our local authority. Our friendship event takes place with a live band, free ice creams, bouncy castle, face painting. A fire engine will be on-site for kids to see. Our local mayor, head of the local council Ruth Dombey, Police Safer neighbourhood police, local schools, and other community groups will be present. Along with the events and activities, we will have a welcome ceremony to welcome Hong Kongers to Sutton.

We want Hong Kongers to feel safe, and we want to tell the story of why they are here to help with social and cultural integration and reduce the risk of racially motivated issues. Most of all, we want to as Christians bless, care for, and welcome this group into our community.

So we'd love you to help us, and it's straightforward to do. Come down on September 18th and enjoy the activities. That is all you need to do.
